Following his dream for fun, a lucky man found a block of gold worth hundreds of thousands of dollars

"I dreamed that I was holding a block of gold in the forest. I simply followed what I remembered for fun—I never expected to be so lucky," the man recounted.

This remarkable story of gold discovery, guided by a dream, has stirred excitement in a small town in Australia. An elderly man living in Victoria, Australia, was astonished when he naturally unearthed a gold nugget weighing 4.3 kilograms. Remarkably, his dream had pinpointed the exact location and depth at which the gold was buried.

He shared, "It was a true dream—it literally led me to this strange patch of land. In my dream, I saw myself holding a block of gold in the forest. I simply followed what I remembered for fun, never thinking I’d be this lucky."

After keeping the gold for several years, the old man decided to sell the 4.3‑kg nugget to an American businessman for nearly $400,000 USD. So taken was he with the nugget that he even created a replica to remember this valuable treasure, fearing that his advancing age might cause him to forget the appearance of this precious, charming piece of gold. Once the valuable treasure was sold, the man planned to take a few days off to relax on a beautiful boat.

There are also other fascinating stories revolving around lucky gold discoveries.

For instance, in October 1990, an elderly farmer from Norfolk, England, stunned the nation by unveiling an ancient treasure believed to date back to the Iceni tribe. The unnamed farmer recounted that while plowing a field in the village of Snettisham, he accidentally struck a mass of metal from the Iron Age. In the 1950s, over 100 precious items had already been found in that very area.

Initially, thinking it was merely part of an old bronze bed, he left it at the edge of the field for a few days. He wasn’t surprised until he accidentally stepped into a roughly 50‑cm‑deep hole. To his astonishment, within that small hole—about the size of a foot—lay an abundance of exquisitely crafted jewelry that looked fit for royalty. Among the treasures were four ropes braided entirely from solid gold, each weighing over 1 kilogram.

It was truly astonishing that ancient people possessed such refined gold-crafting techniques despite the crude, resource-scarce conditions of their time.

Soon after news of the find spread, experts from Norwich Castle Museum personally visited the area where the antiques were discovered. They remarked, "The four coils of rope made from pure gold are considered a rare treasure found on the surface."

And that wasn’t all—over the following decades, a multitude of other treasures have been unearthed in the area.

His wife, Mrs. Rout Rout Ivy Wiley, recalled, "He was so proud of what he had done. At that time, we all knew that he had made a contribution to history. I will never forget what he accomplished."

Later, the British museum personally presented the lucky farmer with a check worth £1,850 (which, at current exchange rates, is equivalent to about £63,000).
