CHAPTER 3 — CAN THYME REALLY FIGHT PARASITES, VIRUSES, AND CANDIDA?

This is probably the most important part of the viral claim.

The answer is not simply yes or no.

There is preliminary laboratory evidence suggesting that certain thyme compounds can affect some microorganisms.

That includes research involving bacteria and fungi.

Some laboratory studies have also examined plant compounds against viruses.

However, laboratory activity is not the same as demonstrated treatment in humans.

Consider Candida.

Candida is a group of yeasts that can cause infections under certain circumstances.

A laboratory experiment may show that an essential-oil component inhibits fungal growth.

That is scientifically interesting.

But a person with a genuine Candida infection should not assume that drinking thyme tea will eliminate it.

The same principle applies to urinary tract infections.

A UTI can be caused by bacteria that may require appropriate medical evaluation and, depending on the circumstances, antibiotic treatment.

Ignoring a significant urinary infection can allow it to spread toward the kidneys.

A viral infection presents another challenge.

Herpes viruses establish infections in the body that cannot simply be "flushed out" with an herb.

Similarly, influenza can become serious, particularly in older adults, young children, pregnant people, and individuals with certain underlying conditions.

Thyme may be part of a comforting meal or warm beverage during an illness.

That is very different from saying it destroys the virus.

The same caution applies to parasites.

Different parasites require completely different treatments.

Some affect the intestines.

Others can affect tissues or organs.

There is no single herb that should be assumed to eliminate every type of parasite.

This is why a dramatic statement such as "the most powerful herb that destroys parasites, viruses, and infections" should immediately raise a question:

Where is the human clinical evidence?

That question is not anti-herb.

It is simply good science.
