Chapter 1: An Unexpected Discovery

A routine evening quickly turned into a moment of concern when a parent noticed something unusual while helping her son get ready for bed. Hidden among the hair near the scalp was a small, grayish creature attached to the skin. At first glance, it did not resemble common insects such as ants, flies, or mosquitoes. The bug appeared swollen and firmly attached, making it difficult to identify.

Many parents experience a similar moment of uncertainty when they discover an unfamiliar insect on a child. Questions immediately come to mind. Is it dangerous? Could it spread disease? How long has it been there?

The insect in the image is commonly known as a tick. Unlike insects that bite briefly and fly away, ticks attach themselves to people or animals and feed on blood for extended periods. Because they often remain hidden in hair, behind ears, or in skin folds, they may go unnoticed for hours or even days.
