Death and the Mystery of Tears Before Passing

Death is one of the greatest mysteries, and this very mystery makes it even more frightening. Many films and television dramas depict the state of dying as a moment filled with profound emotions, often showing characters shedding tears just before they pass away.

Some people may think this is an exaggeration in movies and television, but modern science tells us that this phenomenon can indeed happen. Why do people cry before death, and what do they see?

Tears Before Death

Scientists and medical researchers have studied this phenomenon and confirmed that when a person is close to death, their eyes can indeed shed tears.

However, this does not necessarily mean that the dying person is overwhelmed with regrets deep inside. It may simply be because their life force has reached its end, their bodily organs have begun shutting down, and among them, the brain is the last link to fail. Before complete death, the eyes lose their ability to regulate basic functions, including controlling tears.

Still, the brain continues to function, and this may cause some people to cry. At that moment, tears may be one of the few responses the brain can still trigger. The lacrimal glands in the eyes also serve as a detoxifying organ, and the liquid they release helps moisten and protect the eyes.

Even when we do not actively feel sadness or loss, some tears remain stored in our lacrimal glands.

The Connection Between Tears and Emotions

As mentioned above, when the body’s organs can no longer function, the human brain is still able to receive information and attempt to mobilize the remaining parts of the body. In other words, people are still capable of thought and emotional activity at this final stage.

Human emotions are rich and complex. In pivotal moments such as birth, separation, and death, many are overwhelmed by strong and sensitive feelings. Life can be incredibly powerful, yet also fragile at certain times.

When someone reaches the end of their life, with many worries and reluctance in their heart, sadness naturally arises. If such thoughts surface and they still feel attachment to loved ones or the world, they may shed tears before passing.

The emotions hidden in those tears are complicated, reflecting a person’s worldview and the experiences of their lifetime. Some cry because they cannot bear to part with loved ones. These people often lived happy lives, surrounded by care and companionship, and deeply bonded with family.

Because of this, they are able to feel love and warmth consistently as they grow, and they have developed an independent way of thinking. But when they realize they must part from loved ones forever, sorrow floods their hearts and tears naturally fall.

Others may not easily accept death. Deep inside, they carry resentment and dissatisfaction. They are unhappy with their current lives, unwilling to live an ordinary existence, and regret not cherishing time or boldly pursuing what they wanted.

Some may even be entangled in troubles and think they should not have acted foolishly to waste their lives in vain.

Understanding Death

Of course, we must also recognize that life, separation, and death are processes everyone must go through. Life itself is abundant and colorful. Whether in happy moments or difficult years, once we leave them behind, they become empty memories.

Even when deep in our hearts we feel reluctant to let go of this world, we must learn to accept reality and understand that one day we will all depart.

From this perspective, those who shed quiet tears before death may be sad and in pain. Emotional people can easily empathize with this sorrow, often crying loudly after losing loved ones to express grief and longing.

This humanistic interpretation may be more convincing to the public than simple scientific theories.

We hope that everyone can always maintain a passion for life and live happily, without regret or remorse. In this way, even when the time comes to depart, we can still smile, say goodbye to our loved ones, and accept our lives with peace of mind.
