Petechiae are tiny red, purple, or brown spots caused by small blood vessels breaking beneath the skin. Unlike many rashes, these spots usually do not fade when pressed.
Petechiae can develop after severe coughing, vomiting, or intense physical strain, but they may also be associated with certain medical conditions. If they appear suddenly or are widespread, medical evaluation is recommended.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is an autoimmune condition that accelerates skin-cell production. This can lead to thick, red patches covered with silvery scales.
Although psoriasis most commonly affects the elbows, knees, and scalp, it can occur anywhere on the body. Symptoms often come and go in cycles.
Insect Bites
Mosquitoes, fleas, bed bugs, and other insects can leave behind red, itchy spots that vary in size and appearance.
Most bites heal on their own, but persistent swelling, pain, or signs of infection may require medical attention.
