Start by sitting or lying in a comfortable position.

If your skin is dry, you can apply a small amount of moisturizer. This can reduce friction and make the massage more comfortable.

Begin with broad, gentle strokes across the sole.

Move slowly from the heel toward the ball of the foot. Then use your thumbs to make small circular movements around the arch.

Spend extra time on areas that feel tight, but avoid pressing directly into sharp pain.

Next, gently massage the heel and the top of the foot.

You can also move each toe slowly through a comfortable range of motion.

The entire process can take five to ten minutes per foot, although even a shorter session may feel relaxing.

There is no need to massage aggressively.

More pressure does not automatically mean more benefit.

And avoid massaging directly over cuts, blisters, infections, bruises, or unexplained swelling.

If you have diabetes, significant circulation problems, neuropathy, a history of blood clots, or another condition affecting your feet, speak with a healthcare professional before starting regular massage.

Most importantly, don't let dramatic internet claims distract you from the real benefits.

Foot massage cannot magically remove toxins from your organs.

It cannot “reset” your kidneys, liver, heart, or brain through specific points on the sole.

But it can be a relaxing form of self-care.

It may help tired feet feel more comfortable, encourage relaxation, and become a calming signal that the day is coming to an end.

And that may be the surprising answer behind the bedtime ritual.

Your feet may not hold secret switches for every organ in your body—but taking a few quiet minutes to care for them can help you slow down, relax, and prepare for sleep.
