Park Min-young was completely fascinated by her character Kang Ji-won
tvN’s new Monday-Tuesday drama “Marry My Husband” (written by Shin Yoo-dam, directed by Park Won-guk and Han Jin-seon, planned by Studio Dragon, produced by DK E&M), which will be premiere at 8:50 PM on January 1st, 2024, tells the story of a woman who was murdered after witnessing her husband’s affair with her best friend. She returns to ten years ago and begins her second life.
In the drama, Park Min-young portrays Kang Ji-won, who transforms from being brutally oppressed to a fate explorer. Kang Ji-won, facing a terminal illness and betrayal from trusted individuals at the end of a difficult life, returns ten years back, gaining an opportunity to set things right. Park Min-young’s performance is anticipated as she depicts the proactive transformation of Kang Ji-won, who changes her passive life attitude and pioneers her own destiny.
Recalling her first encounter with the script, Park Min-young said, “It was so interesting that I could read through it in one breath. I was fascinated by Kang Ji-won, who strives to live properly, and I enjoyed imagining how I could portray her well.“
Especially noteworthy is Park Min-young’s acting transformation, where she dropped to 37kg to portray Kang Ji-won during her battle with cancer. The detailed approach to both the internal and external aspects of the character is evident, and Park Min-young shared, “I attempted weight loss not just for the sake of being thin but to express Kang Ji-won’s dead-end pain. During filming, I endured by drinking sports drinks.”
To make Kang Ji-won’s transformation more dramatic, Park Min-young even underwent a change to short hair.
Lastly, Park Min-young pointed out aspects viewers should pay attention to in the drama, stating, “It carries a message that you must be the master of your life. I hope you enjoy the refreshing scenes where Ji-won slowly realizes and awakens to life, as they appear in almost every episode.” She raised expectations for her passionate performance by asking viewers, “If it were your second life, what would you want to change?“
