Washing machines are designed to make things cleaner, but there is one part of the machine itself which can often get very dirty. The drawer in which you put laundry liquid or washing powder can often get gunky or mouldy, as unused particles of detergent mix and stick to the plastic.
Getting a cloth into this drawer while it is attached to the machine can be tricky. However, cleaning it is easier than many people realise, as there is a button that allows it to be removed entirely from the washing machine.
A Facebook user called Faith recently posted only to share her discovery with other people passionate about cleaning, the Mirror reports. She uploaded a group of before and after pictures of her washine machine drawer compartment to popular Facebook group Cleaning Tips and Tricks, explaining she had taken the tray out and cleaned it separately after noticing the button.
Different appliances will vary, but in many, there is an indented section of plastic – usually a different colour to the drawer – that sits above one of the compartments, normally the middle one in which you put fabric softener. Pressing on this will unlock the drawer from its hinges, allowing it to be slotted out and back in with ease.
Once Faith had removed the drawer, she cleaned it with the simple yet effective combination of warm washing up liquid water, a toothbrush, and a cloth. Sharing before and after pictures of her washing machine drawer, she said: “How on earth did I not know this drawer came out?!”
And Faith wasn’t the only one who hadn’t spotted the button before, as many people commented to say they were similarly amazed. Mandy replied: “They say you learn something everyday….. Well today I learned this thank you x.” JJ asked: “Really this top section comes out???!”
Mary confessed: “Are you serious? I’m forever bashing my knuckles trying to clean the inside and your telling me this whole time I could have just simply pulled it out? Running off to try now.”
