Piolo Pascual on playing a corrupt politician in Pamilya Sagrado: “It’s like walking on eggshells!”

‘Pamilya Sagrado’ star Piolo Pascual returns to series acting in Dreamscape Entertainment’s exciting new drama series.

It’s been almost two years since he starred in his last drama series Flower of Evil, and Piolo Pascual shared why he did not think twice when Dreamscape offered another exciting project to him in the role of Governor Rafael Sagrado in the much-anticipated series Pamilya Sagrado.

“Siguro if I turned it down, it would become the biggest regret of my life after what happened to Tito Deo (Edrinal, the late Dreamscape Entertainment founder and head),” he said.

“But you know,  taking on this character, responsibilidad ng isang artista na sa tingin nila hindi pa napanood ng tao, and when this was offered it wasn’t about being a bad guy. Baka ma-paint ng ibang picture sa tao, but it’s all about redemption,” he shared during the Pamilya Sagrado mediacon held last June 8 in Gateway 2 mall cinema in Quezon City. “It’s not all bad naman throughout. So yung journey niya na nagsimula dito, but of course through the course of time makikita mo yung pagbabago, not just in being a politician but also a father. So ‘yun talaga yung nagustuhan ko sa role na ito.”

After more than three decades of acting in the industry, Piolo admitted he saw something special in the show, even if it had him playing a gray character alongside other veteran actors like Tirso Cruz III and John Arcilla.

“It’s such a big cast and just to be part of cast… I was there looking at everyone. Parang ang sabi ko, napaka-suwerte ko naman na maging part ng production. So nice to be part of something so big, something so grand, and meaningful, nakaka-humble,” he shared.

What made the project even more enticing was the challenge posed by the character he was to play.

“Playing the role of a corrupt politician is something I haven’t done before. It’s like walking on eggshells because ayaw mong masabihan na may pinapatamaan ka, because at the end of the day, this show is fictional,” he explained. “So we’re trying to be careful at the same time. We really wanna mirror society as if its happening nowadays so yun lang naman sa akin. I’m just an artist, I’m a talent and I want to personify a certain character.”

In the new Dreamscape series which Piolo divulged will run for at least 100 episodes, he will play the role of a ambitious governor who is the father of Justine, played by Grae Fernandez and husband to Mercedes, played by Mylene Dizon.

Piolo says people will learn a lot from his latest role.

“They will discover that he starts out bad, but through the course of time he goes through certain situations where he will face is own demons, where he will choose right or wrong. Marami talagang mapupulot na lessons sa character ko,” Piolo revealed.

“We are halfway through with the shooting, so marami pa siyang pupuntahan. I really brought him to the darkest sides para yung redemption niya mas malaki yung paglagpak niya bilang tao. I really wanna make him as human as possible and I’m sure marami makaka-identify sa kanya,” he added.

Working closely for with his younger co-stars Kyle Echarri and Grae Fernandez was also a fun experience according to Piolo.

“It was already shown in the story that Grae is my son while Kyle is the one I helped to become part of  the fraternity through my son. I used him as a pawn as well for something big that will be exposed. Ma-ta-tackle yun midway ng show,” Piolo divulged.

“It was really nice working with these guys. What they bring to the table, ma-i-insipire ka,” Piolo said in praise of the young actors. “Hindi sila basta nakikinig sa direktor or acting coach. They bring something else na galing sa kanila mismo. As my character is progressing, sila din mismo they do their homework by suggesting and talking it with our directors.  They also have something  to contribute.”
