Robert Zemeckis’s 2004 animated adventure Christmas movie The Polar Express is officially being planned to get a follow-up sequel, so get your tickets ready.
In the first instalment – stars Tom Hanks and Josh Hutcherson brought to life characters based on the 1985 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg.
Zemeckis and Hanks worked together previously on movies Forrest Gump and Cast Away, Hutcherson went on to flesh out his career with projects such as Zathura and Blumhouse’s live-action take on Five Nights at Freddy’s.
Although The Polar Express debuted with mixed reviews, it seems that now – 20 years later – a follow-up sequel is being worked on as we speak.
While talking to ComicBook.com, producer Gary Goetzman revealed which of his projects he’d “love to” see have follow-up sequels made.
He went on to name which movies he wants to see sequels to.
“I’d love to a sequel of Where The Wild Things Are,” Goetzman said.
He added: “There’s a lot of the things that we’ve done, if it established itself, branded itself, those movies, studios want another one.”
“That’s the way it goes.”
Goetzman then continued: “I’m up for Mamma Mia 3, man. That would be a ball to do right about now. But it becomes much involved with, ‘Who’s artistic property would that be?’”
He added: “It’s just not like, ‘Hey, let’s go do another free sailing! So, they all take time and that’s okay because we don’t mind things going slowly.”
However, although the producer stated that sequels take time, he went on to reveal that The Polar Express 2 is currently being “worked out now”.
“That’s trying to be worked out now, for sure, Polar [Express] 2. Yes.”
The Polar Express 2 does not yet have a release date.
