Premier Health President and CEO Mary Boosalis plans to retire next year, the company announced Monday.
Boosalis has led the Dayton, Ohio-based health system since 2017. The board of trustees will conduct a national search for her successor.
Throughout her 35-year at at the system, Boosalis sought to expand Premier Health’s territory through partnerships with other businesses and community stakeholders.
Most notably, Premier has a long-standing collaborative relationship with the University of Dayton. In 2000, the two entities formed the Genesis Project to redevelop Dayton’s Fairgrounds neighborhood. In 2019, the university and Premier created OnMain, a $15 million, multiyear project to build out a 38-acre site into a mixed-used residential community.
In June, Premier announced plans to redevelop an old hospital site into a 12,000-square-foot urgent care facility. The community redevelopment initiative is part of the health system’s Phoenix Next partnership with Dayton.
“Premier will lose a great leader when Mary Boosalis retires, but she will leave a tremendous legacy defined by pioneering accomplishments, deep and enduring partnerships, and her unsurpassed integrity,” Eric Spina, president of the University of Dayton, said in a news release.
Under Boosalis’ leadership, the share of executives who are women grew to more than half.
“Mary has done an exceptional job, leading Premier through some of the most challenging times in the history of our community and in the health system’s 130 years, all with the highest standard of ethics,” Anita Moore, chair of the Premier Health board of trustees, said in a news release. “She places her focus on patients and the physicians, nurses, and other clinical and support staff at Premier—all with the goal to build stronger and healthier communities.”
Boosalis earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from California State University at Fresno and a master’s degree in health services administration from Arizona State University College of Business.
Modern Healthcare recognized Boosalis as a top executive several times. She was one of the Top 25 Women Leaders in Healthcare in 2019 and 2021 and one of the 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives in 2020.
