“Queen of Tears” quickly became the most popular drama at the moment by reaching double-digit ratings with only 2 episodes
In episode 2 of tvN’s Sat-Sun drama “Queen of Tears”, Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji-won) is diagnosed with a terminal disease, and Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo-hyun) decides to give up on their divorce. The conflict between Baek Hyun-woo, who already lost his goal, and Hong Hae-in, who regained her will to live thanks to her husband, made viewers curious about the future of the couple.
According to Nielsen Korea, episode 2 of “Queen of Tears” recorded an average rating of 9.8% in the Seoul area with a real-time peak of 11.1%. Its nationwide rating was 8.7%, peaking at 10.2% in real-time. In particular, the drama broke its highest rating records and reached double-digit numbers in both categories.
The drama not only ranked No.1 among cable and terrestrial dramas but also achieved impressive results in the 2049 chart targeting tvN program’s viewership. The 2049 rankings announced “Queen of Tears” episode 2 recorded 3.8% for both nationwide and Seoul area ratings, peaking at 4.5% in real-time.
“Queen of Tears” depicts the romance of Hong Hae-in, a third-generation chaebol and “queen of Queen’s Department Store”, and Baek Hyun-woo, son of Yongdu-ri village and a “prince of supermarket” as they face crisis and start again in the third year of their marriage. The drama started airing on March 9th and the number of its episodes has not been confirmed, but it is expected to air until April 28th with 16 episodes.
The drama is not based on any webtoon and the script was written by writer Park Ji-eun, it is very hard to predict the ending. However, many viewers have high expectations for the solid acting skills of Kim Soo-hyun, Kim Ji-won and other trustworthy actors and hope “Queen of Tears” to become the second “Crash Landing on You”.
