Red Velvet’s Wendy opens up to Taeyeon about the struggles of working on her solo album

Red Velvet’s Wendy appeared as a special guest on Taeyeon’s YouTube talk show ‘Taeng Forest‘ to find some advice about her career.

Wendy, who has been in the industry for 10 years, explained her reasons for appearing on the show and asked her senior Taeyeon for advice.

She explained her first concern and shared, “Last time, I didn’t manage to take as good care of myself as I should have. So for this solo album, I thought I should prepare better this time.” Wendy explained that there were some aspects that she felt she could’ve done better for her solo album this time around. Wendy asked if there is a way to both have the ideal visuals and also the singing skills when working on an album.

Wendy explained, “It was my first time losing that much weight. So, while practicing, I’ve kept trying to keep it in balance. My tone got much lighter. But I remember the power I had when I sang. It felt my tone because lighter but it’s hard to find that pretty tone.”

Taeyeon agreed and explained, “Right, it’s something I have to keep figuring out too.” She elaborated, “It’s a natural thing. When you lose so much weight, you are bound to sound lighter. The body itself is very small, so we don’t get the sound we want.”

Taeyeon continued to advise, “(ask yourself) what could be the most important thing to me? It’s all about making a choice. If I had to choose between the two, I’m still a singer, so singing matters more. That’s the conclusion I came up with.” Taeyeon continued, “Your fans like you back then and you now. They’re happy with whatever you have to offer,” and told Wendy not to worry too much.
