Kim Tae Ri, Oh Jung Se, Hong Kyung, and writer Kim Eun Hee revealed interesting behind-the-scenes stories of “Revenant”.
“Revenant” is a Korean occult mystery drama about a woman who is possessed by a devil and a man who can see the devil digging into mysterious deaths. The “Revenant interview” video released on July 18th features TMI about the characters, stories, and scenes revealed by Kim Eun Hee, Kim Tae Ri, Oh Jung Se, and Hong Kyung.
First, when asked about the difference between playing San Young and portraying her appearance when she gets possessed by the devil, Kim Tae Ri said, “The image of San Young everyone had in mind during the script reading was that she’s an adult woman, but I approached the character in a little playful way. Fortunately, the writer really liked it”, revealing how Kim Tae Ri’s devil portrayal has the feeling of a young child.
Regarding her first time seeing Kim Tae Ri’s devil acting, writer Kim Eun Hee said, “She acted so well. When I heard her tone as the devil, I thought, ‘This is why people keep praising Kim Tae Ri’.” Kim Eun Hee didn’t spare any compliments for Kim Tae Ri’s expression of the devil.
When asked about the challenges of playing Hae Sang, who can see the devil, Oh Jung Se shared a funny behind-the-scenes story, saying, “I hypnotized myself and acted very seriously, but the director said, ‘Cut! Let’s stop with this dark shadow”, drawing laughter.
Hong Kyung then explained the past relationship between San Young and his character Hong Sae by revealing Hong Sae’s feelings when he first saw San Young in the past. The actor said, “Hong Sae was impressed by the honest, firm, and bold personality of San Young, who does not care about the gazes of others. He saw things he did not have in her so he got attracted to her.”
Writer Kim Eun Hee then mentioned the reason she chose the red daenggi as the thing to indicate ghosts and the devil. She said, “When discussing the props, we selected the daenggi because any Korean can recognize and predict the gender of the devil by looking at it although it is rarely seen in our daily life”, showcasing Kim Eun Hee’s efforts in adding Korean elements to the story.
