Ricky Martin, 51, breaks his silence about his divorce from Jwan Josef, 38, as he shares they were on the rocks for a while: ‘This is not a recent decision’

Ricky Martin has broken his silence on his divorce from Jwan Josef, which was announced last month.

The 51-year-old music artist said that the decision to split from his 38-year-old spouse was ‘not a recent’ one.

‘When the public found out, we had already gone through a grieving process,’ Martin shared with Telemundo.

The couple married in 2017 and share two kids — daughter Lucia, four, and son Renn, three. Ricky also has twins Matteo and Valentino, 14, who he welcomed as a single parent in 2008 via surrogacy.

Elsewhere in his interview with the outlet, the Living La Vida Loca hitmaker stated, ‘Jwan and I will always be family.’

‘We have two children that we are going to raise together, and this is not a recent decision. We have been planning this situation for a long time, it’s pre-pandemic,’ the star explained.

And he said that he and Jwan share an amicable relationship.

‘We look into each other’s eyes and smile, we hug each other, and we go through the ups and downs, we cry together, and we laugh together,’ he stated.

‘It was seven or eight years [with Jwan]. I want to have a good time, I want to enjoy life… Let’s take it easy, but yes, I do see myself in another relationship,’ the Puerto Rico native revealed.

‘I’m not talking about the near future, but I like being in love, I like being in a relationship, I like waking up in the morning to a morning kiss, breakfast, and complicity,’ he opened up.

Martin cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for the divorce, and is seeking joint custody of their children.

‘My children never saw a fight between Jwan and me,’ Rick noted in the interview.

‘That’s why it’s like, “Are you going to divorce, are you going to separate, how?” because we resolved our differences with a good talk, maybe in our room,’ he explained.
