Sandara Park has confessed about her unlucky dating history, which occurred during her time with former group 2NE1.
Sandara Park Reveals Why She Ghosted Secret Celebrity Ex-Boyfriend
On August 16, Sandara Park guested at MBC’s talk show “Radio Star.” The former 2NE1 member tackled one of the most discussed topics in the K-pop industry: dating. However, she narrowed it down to a certain kind of gimmick called cyber-dating.
In the K-pop industry, everyone is well-aware of how much dating is restricted during an idol’s early career. This is because it can lead to a negative effect on the idol’s performance on the profession, as well as affect their image towards the public or fandom.
Dara, a former member of K-pop’s treasured girl group 2NE1, understands this situation clearly and the negative consequences it can lead to for an idol.
She then commented that during her time with the group, dating freely was an improbable choice, since trainees would have to pay the price if caught dating. The star then stated how cyber-dating was the option for her due to a five-year dating ban after she debuted.
“You will get cut down if you date, because as a trainee, you’re supposed to be harnessing your skills and practicing. After we debuted, a 5-year dating ban was implemented, so I chose to cyber date.”
Dara then shared how they broke up. According to the idol, she got scared to the thought of paparazzi approaching them during a holiday trip, which they planned beforehand.
“One time, a vacation leave was given to me, so my (ex)boyfriend and I planned a trip. He was excited for it, but on the day of the trip, I got terrified.
I thought that if I went outside, people would shout, ‘Oh look, it’s 2NE1!’ and lots of paparazzi would come. So on that day, I ghosted him. He called multiple times, but I just stared at my phone and said ‘sorry.'”
Sandara then confirmed that her ex-boyfriend was a celebrity when host member Kim Gu Ra asked about his status.
In the aftermath of her ghosting, the boyfriend eventually broke up with Dara, leading the idol to officially apologize to him on “Radio Star” for her previous actions.
“I’m so sorry (for what I did).”
