Song Joong Ki claimed being a husband and a father led to losing a job. He also mentioned his expensive appearance fees.
Recently, Song Joong Ki had an interview with the Chinese entertainment media Sina Entertainment.
Regarding his upcoming movie ‘Hopeless,’ Song Joong Ki said, “Money was not important for this project. I didn’t care about money.” Song Joong Ki previously attracted attention by starring in ‘Hopeless’ without a guarantee fee.
He said, “I read the script and liked it. ‘Hopeless’ deals with family violence and the weak in society. That’s why it has value. I wanted to participate in this movie.”
He added, “If I had received an appearance fee, it would have been too expensive, and a large budget would have been required. This movie is not that kind of film.”
Previously, on tvN’s ‘Free Doctor,’ Song Joong Ki’s per-episode appearance fee was made public. According to the program, Song Joong Ki received approximately 200 million won per episode for ‘Vincenzo’ and more than 300 million won per episode for ‘Reborn Rich.’
Regarding this, netizens raised doubts about Song Joong Ki’s statement about appearance fees. This is because in the interview, Song Joong Ki claimed, “Becoming a father and a husband means losing a job in this entertainment industry.”
Some argue that if Song Joong Ki really thought he had lost a job, his statement about having an expensive market value is contradictory.
At the time when he received 200 million won per episode for ‘Vincenzo,’ he was already married to Song Hye Kyo and had gone through a divorce.
The exact intention behind Song Joong Ki’s statement remains unclear.
Last month, Song Joong Ki attended the 76th Cannes Film Festival with the movie ‘Hopeless.’ On June 14th, he also announced the news of his wife Katy Louise Saunders’ childbirth in Rome, Italy.
