Supermarket Urgently Recalls Protein Powder With Unexpected Ingredient

There has been a national recall of a popular protein product available from Woolworths supermarkets.

The urgent recall has been issued for the Keep it Cleaner Plant-Based Protein Powder Chocolate Flavour 375g due to the presence of an undeclared allergen.

While the protein powder is seemingly vegan, Metro Food Co which produces the product has issued the recall due to the presence of dairy in the product.

The affected batch has a best before date of 3 July 2022.

Those with a dairy allergy or intolerance could suffer a reaction if they consume the product.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand issued the recall on Thursday (September 10) as an allergy alert.

“Keep it Cleaner Plant Based Protein Powder Chocolate Flavour 375g with a BEST BEFORE date of 03/JULY/2022 due to the presence of an undeclared allergen (dairy),” they said.

The product has been available for sale at Woolworths nationally.

The recall is due to the presence of an undeclared allergen (dairy) in the protein powder batch.

Consumers who have a dairy allergy or intolerance should not consume this product.

According to the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA), milk is a common cause of allergies in children, but is not common in adults.

In Australia and New Zealand around 2% (1 in 50) of babies are allergic to cow’s milk.
