In case you’re worried about Christmas and want to get started early before it all – possibly – gets cancelled, Tesco, B&M, and Home Bargains have already started filling their shelves with festive goods.
Yes, they’ve started selling Christmas stuff in September. That’s got to be some sort of record, right?
Actually, maybe not.
In a move that we can only assume is in expectation of the same kind of panic buying that we saw earlier in the year, but this time for tinsel and baubles, the various shops have decided to bring forward the yuletide preparations, and confuse shoppers whilst they’re at it.

One such shopper shared a picture of an aisle full of Santa themed gear, writing: “Home bargains are all stocked up for Santa coming. Some good deals on they’re chocolates and gift sets.”

You’d have to expect a good deal if you were buying Christmas stuff more than three months before the big day.
It’s basically the same as those ruthlessly organised – and incredibly boring – people who like to get their Christmas shopping done in January.

Seriously, where is the fun in that?
Another person commented: “Sorry cannot get my head round all this.”
In sync with most of us, a third simply said: “Far too early.”
Another strange factor in all of this is that there are a load of Christmas style baked goods on sale. They’re not gonna keep until late December, are they?

That point was illustrated by the photograph of one shopper, who shared a picture of mince pies with a sell-by date of September 16.

However, not everyone sees this as a strange and unwelcome thing. Loads of people have actually seen the positives in this acceleration of the holiday season.
One of those in support said: “A lot of families are on a lower income due to Covid, some on 80% wage, and others like myself have actually lost their jobs!
“So I’m happy to see things out early so I can spread the cost more.”

That person is definitely already tucking into some mince pies on their couch watching Miracle on 34th Street.
Another advantage of all this is that there are a load of things on shelves that we can’t usually enjoy at this time of the year.
Obviously, we’ve covered mince pies, but how about a big box of Lindor chocolates?
Maybe we should start decking the halls in September, after all.
