A car thief pulled off a bold move by “snatching atop the pumpkin stand” a BMW 8-Series while the car’s owner was busy inflating the tires at a gas station in New Jersey.
The rare but audacious luxury car theft occurred in Roseland County, New Jersey, on January 4 and was captured on surveillance cameras at a gas station.
Initially, the driver of the black 8-Series Gran Coupe BMW could be seen leaning over and inflating the front passenger-side tire. Meanwhile, a suspicious-looking young man stepped out of an orange-colored car parked nearby and approached the high-value “prey.”
It seems that the BMW owner, engrossed in inflating the car’s tires, left the car door open and the engine running. This made it easy for the thief to smoothly slip into the car, shift into reverse, and speed away.
It was only then that the BMW owner realized. The man attempted to chase after his car but was ultimately helpless against the thief’s incredibly swift act of “snatching atop the pumpkin stand.”
Simultaneously, the orange-colored car of the accomplice swiftly fled the scene. It’s plausible that the car thieves had observed the behaviors of those frequenting the aforementioned gas station to inflate their cars, as their choice of location and coordinated effort to make a quick getaway appeared well-coordinated.
Local law enforcement is currently investigating the incident. However, it’s likely the car thieves might have removed the license plate or even dismantled the entire vehicle before fleeing.
The BMW 8-Series Gran Coupe is a luxurious 4-door sports sedan from the German automaker, competing with rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GT 4-Door, Porsche Panamera, and others.
