At 12 noon on the 29th, Lee Seon-gyun’s funeral was held at the funeral hall of Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The funeral was held privately according to the wishes of his bereaved family.


There was a heavy atmosphere at the funeral hall before his funeral. In front of the mortuary set up on the third floor of the funeral home, it was filled with artificial flowers sent by Yoo In-chon, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, director Shin Won-ho, director Kim Won-seok, and actors Byun Yo-han, Ha Ji-won, Yoo Jun-sang and Ma Dong-seok.

Lee Seon-gyun’s funeral took place amidst a send-off from his bereaved family and colleagues. The bereaved family sobbed, and his wife, actress Jeon Hye-jin, also shed tears. Jeon Hye-jin held her young son’s hand and tried to control her emotions. She even closed her eyes to hide her crumbling expression.

On the second day, several colleagues visited the mortuary. Director Bong Joon-ho, who visited the funeral early in the morning, said goodbye to the deceased. Actress Park So-dam, who appeared in ‘Parasite’, also paid condolences. Actors Jeong Ryeo-won, Oh Na-ra, Kim Ji-hyun, Park So-dam, Lee Moo-saeng, Choi Won-young, Ha Do-kwon, Lee Ki-woo, Ahn Seok-hwan, Cha Tae-hyun, Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Gwang-gyu, Ju Ji-hoon, Song Sae-byeok, Park Sung-woong, Jin Seo-yeon, Yoo Hae-jin, and Kim Mu-yeol also saw off the deceased for the last time.

In addition to actors, broadcasters Shin Dong-yup and Park Kyung-rim, singers Jang Ki-ha and Gil, and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon also visited the funeral to pay their respects. In particular, Minister Yoo In-chon expressed his sorrow over Lee Seon-gyun’s death, saying, “I am young and in the prime of my working age, but my heart just breaks. It is a tragedy.” In the late evening, Lee Seon-gyun’s two sons, who were studying abroad, returned to Korea and visited the funeral home.

The late Seon-gyun Lee was booked on charges of marijuana and psychotropic drugs under the Narcotics Control Act last October and has been under police investigation. According to the Incheon Police Agency’s drug crime investigation unit, Seon-gyun Lee has been suspected of taking various types of drugs, including marijuana, at the home of Mr. A, the manager of an entertainment establishment, since early this year.

Last September, the police received information that drugs were being distributed at an entertainment establishment in Gangnam, Seoul, and suspected Lee Sun-kyun of drug use during the investigation. When suspicions were raised, Lee Sun-kyun sued Mr. A on charges of blackmail and threats. He is known to have given approximately 300 million won to Mr. A.

With the death of the late Lee Seon-kyun, the police drug investigation is expected to end with ‘no right to prosecute.’

Meanwhile, the late Lee Sun-gyun debuted in 1999 with Bijou’s ‘It’s Okay’ music video. Since then, he has appeared in movies such as ‘Warrior’, ‘All About My Wife’, ‘Going to the End’, ‘Parasite’, ‘King Maker’, and ‘Sleep’, as well as dramas such as ‘White Tower’, ‘The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince’, ‘Pasta’, ‘ Appeared in ‘Golden Time’, ‘Miss Korea’, ‘My Mister’, and ‘The Law’.
