(Dan Tri) – Before the expedition submarine went missing, British billionaire Hamish Harding confirmed he would board the ship and this could be the only Titanic expedition of its kind this year due to bad weather.
The US Coast Guard confirmed on June 19 that their forces and Canada are coordinating the search for a tourist submarine carrying five people to explore the wreck of the Titanic missing in the Atlantic Ocean.
British billionaire Hamish Harding is said to be one of the people present on the ship, even directly controlling the expedition ship.
Billionaire Harding’s stepson wrote on Facebook that he was “missing on the submarine”. However, this person later deleted the post, citing the family’s privacy.
Billionaire Harding himself said he would board the ship. “I’m proud to announce that I will be joining @oceangateexped’s Titanic expedition as an expert,” he wrote on Instagram June 17.
The billionaire also predicted: “Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission could be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023.”
He added: “An opportunity has just opened up and we will try diving tomorrow. We started moving from St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada yesterday and plan to dive at around 4am tomorrow morning. . Until then, we have a lot of prep work and briefings to do.”
He revealed that there were also some famous explorers on board. He said he will update the information if the weather is stable. However, billionaire Harding made no further posts after that.
According to authorities, the submarine lost contact after diving for about 1 hour 45 minutes on the afternoon of June 18. However, on June 19, the organizers announced the missing ship and asked for the support of the US Coast Guard and Canada.
