Vin Diesel reveals the reason why he almost didn’t participate in ‘Fast & Fast’, what distracted him that made him not participate so much!!

Participating in the first podcast episode of EW’s Binge, actor Vin Diesel told stories surrounding the first part of the Fast & Furious series, The Fast and the Frios, released in theaters in 2001. In it, he revealed the reason why Almost gave up the role of Dominic Toretto (Dom) due to dissatisfaction with the original script, according to EW.

The Fast and the Fast project began when producer Neal H. Mortiz invited actor Timothy Olyphant to play Dom. Universal finally decided to cast Vin Diesel in this role. “We are going to shoot a movie about illegal street racing and want you to play this character. He is a tough guy, living outside the law, with a kind heart,” a Universal representative told Vin Diesel. Then they described the scene he would play in the first movie. “I confirm that I will participate. But the next day, I had to go to the Australian premiere of Pitch Black. I read the script on the way and noticed contradictions. This script was not like what I thought, so I didn’t want to participate in the movie anymore,” Vin Diesel recalled.

Fortunately, Universal was successful in working with David Ayer, a young screenwriter who worked hard to edit the script. Before starting the rewrite, David Ayer met with Vin Diesel to gain more insight into the characters and script. David Ayer said the character of Dom is very complex and compared him to Denzel Washington’s Oscar-winning performance in Training Day. Hearing this, Vin Diesel completely believes in his decision.

Vin Diesel shared: “I appreciate that Ayer can see the complexity of the character. And some other characters also need some adjustments like Letty Ortiz.”
