Xiaomi’s rival targets with the SU7 are the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S. Today, on December 28th, 2023, the phone manufacturer Xiaomi has officially unveiled the first images of its all-new electric car named SU7. This marks the tech giant’s entry into car development. The name SU7 is an abbreviation for “Speed Ultra,” signifying the vehicle’s speed.

Xiaomi SU7, despite being a sedan, boasts a sloping rear similar to a coupe, delivering a smooth and aerodynamic feel. Additionally, the car comes with a set of dual 5-spoke alloy wheels resembling those of the Lamborghini Huracan Evo and frameless side mirrors. Depending on the model, it will utilize either 19-inch or 20-inch wheels and include prominent yellow brake calipers.

In its top-tier model, Xiaomi’s first electric car will come equipped with a LiDAR sensor on the roof. Additionally, a facial recognition-enabled camera placed on the B-pillar will aid in unlocking the car, akin to a smartphone’s smart unlock feature.
Once available on the market, the Xiaomi SU7 will have rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions. The RWD will use one rear-mounted electric motor producing up to 295 horsepower. Meanwhile, the AWD variant will have an additional powerful 369-horsepower front-mounted electric motor, totaling 664 horsepower.
The RWD version will weigh 1,980 kg and reach a top speed of 210 km/h. Corresponding figures for the AWD are 2,205 kg and 265 km/h.
Furthermore, the car will use a BYD LFP 73.6 kWh battery or a CATL ternary (NMC) 101 kWh battery. BYD’s battery will provide a range of 628 km to 668 km, depending on the version. CATL’s battery will offer 800 km to 750 km of range. BYD’s battery supports 400V fast charging, while CATL’s can handle 800V fast charging.
According to information on the website of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Xiaomi SU7 measures 4,997 x 1,963 mm with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. With these dimensions, Xiaomi’s first car is positioned within the mid-to-large sedan segment in China.
Xiaomi claims that the SU7 has entered production and will be available for sale in the coming months. Its direct competitors are expected to be the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S, so the Xiaomi SU7 is anticipated to have a price that isn’t overly inexpensive.
