This artist, originally from Alaska, can make anyone fall in love with her work! Using her own technique, Lee Cross—who signs her works under the pseudonym Wood Splitter Lee—creates incredible plush sculptures that realistically portray baby animals.
Although she also makes playful animals with horns and bright colors, they are actually close to their real-life counterparts.
Lee Cross doesn’t use molds or any sort of patterns when making the hyper-realistic animals. It all starts with a skeleton made of wood, which is then “padded” to look softer and later gets covered with synthetic fur. The finishing touches, according to Wood Splitter Lee, are made with acrylic paint. It’s super delicate work that requires working with brushes.
