HCA Healthcare Sammie Mosier
Sammie Mosier will take over as HCA Healthcare’s chief nurse executive and senior vice president starting Dec. 1, the for-profit health system announced Thursday.
Mosier will succeed Jane Englebright, who plans to retire at the end of the year, according to a news release. Englebright will serve as an advisor through February 2022.
As chief nurse executive, Mosier will lead the Nashville, Tennessee-based system’s more than 90,000 nurses in hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers and other settings.

Throughout her career, she has demonstrated a strong focus on advocating for nurses, driving clinical excellence and colleague engagement, and supporting the professional development of leaders at every level,” HCA Healthcare CEO Sam Hazen said in a news release. “Sammie’s deep understanding of our organization and insights into the needs of our nurses will help ensure nursing remains a differentiator for HCA Healthcare.”
Mosier currently is vice president and chief nurse executive of HCA’s National Group and has been with the company for 25 years. She started as a medical-surgical bedside nurse at the health system’s Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Kentucky before rising into a series of leadership roles, the company said. Mosier has served as chief nursing officer at Frankfort Regional Medical Center and as assistant vice president of nursing practice at the corporate level, developed HCA’s nursing recognition program, and oversaw the creation of HCA’s proprietary evidence-based clinical documentation software that streamlines the documentation process for nurses.
The incoming chief nurse executive has a doctorate in healthcare administration, a master’s degree in management and leadership and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Mosier also is a board-certified nurse executive and medical-surgical nurse through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Englebright will retire after spending nearly 30 years with HCA. She first joined the company in 1992 as a critical care nurse at Lewisville Medical Center in Texas and became the company’s first chief nurse executive in 2007. Englebright launched HCA’s Centers for Clinical Advancement and helped create a partnership between the company and the Galen College of Nursing, which has regional sites throughout the country. Englebright was the first nurse to serve as chair of the Joint Commission, according to HCA.

HCA Healthcare has 187 hospitals and about 2,000 ambulatory care sites, including surgery centers, freestanding emergency departments, urgent care centers and physician clinics in 20 U.S. states and the United Kingdom.
