After wowing fans in the first two trailers for Thor: Ragnarok, fans are eagerly anticipating the official debut of Hela, portrayed by Cate Blanchett.
But what exactly convinced the Oscar-winning actress to lend her talents to the Marvel Cinematic Universe film? As the actress recently revealed to E! News, she was on board with the project as soon as a certain scene – the one where Hela destroys Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) trusty hammer Mjolnir – was pitched to her.
“That had me at ‘hello,’ actually.” Blanchett explained. “I thought that was really exciting that they were prepared to destroy Thor’s power in the first few minutes. So, yeah, it’s a nice entrance.”
The actress has been outspoken about her role in the film – and what it means for female characters in the MCU as a whole. Judging by the overwhelmingly positive response to her character before Ragnarok has even been released, it’s safe to say that Blanchett being motivated to sign on after hearing about that scene is a great thing.
