Nadine Lustre gave her two cents on the love team culture in Philippine media amid Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla’s separation.
In an interview with One Balita Pilipinas, Nadine was asked whether it’s the end of an era for love teams after the reel to real couple revealed that they have decided to put an end to their 11-year relationship.
Nadine herself comes from a love team pairing turned real-life romance with James Reid, which also ended in heartbreak in January 2020.
“I think what matters is that you do what you want to do. If you feel na it’s tapos na, it’s the end of an era, then, why linger ‘di ba?” she said.
Recalling her own failed relationship with James, she shared, “My personal experience was different because we started working on projects separately before the breakup happened.”
Nadine declined to comment on Kathryn and Daniel’s breakup as she says she isn’t close to them, but commented, “Pero matagal din ‘yung 11 years.”
The local star expressed her appreciation that networks are no longer pressuring couples to maintain a romantic façade despite their lack of genuine connection, unlike in the past.
Host MJ Marfori noted that the practice has become more professional, as seen with Barbie Forteza and David Licauco as well as Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano.
“I think that’s how it should be, but I understand din naman why sometimes the management would kind of force it for business reasons. But I’m happy because now, the showbiz industry is changing. It’s not the same as before na kapag love team kayo, dapat kayo,” Nadine said.
She stressed, “Ngayon, I guess everyone is more understanding and everyone is more professional. I think it should be like that.”
When it comes to the fans, the actress expressed her gratitude for having supporters who were very encouraging towards her despite breaking up with James.
“I’m very lucky because there are fans who were understanding of that even when I started dating ulit. There were fans na very supportive. I understood that there were fans na parang heartbroken, there were fans who were mad, which is totally understandable because they were with you that whole journey. Even though they don’t know you personally, nakakasad din naman,” Nadine said.
Nadine is currently in a relationship with French businessman Christophe Bariou. They have started a wine business called Maison Bukana Wines, which was named after Christophe’s beach resort in Siargao.
