Miley Cyrus Now Claims The Longest-Running No. 1 Hit Of All Time On A Billboard Chart

Miley Cyrus scored the hit of a lifetime with her single “Flowers.” The tune was an immediate success from the moment it was released, and now, a year after it dropped, it’s still performing incredibly well.

This week, the smash breaks an all-time record, giving Cyrus another spot in Billboard’s history books.

“Flowers” rules the Adult Contemporary chart once again this frame. The tune has now led the charge on the radio ranking of the tunes that reach the largest audience at adult contemporary stations across the U.S. for 37 weeks.

That now stands as the most turns spent at No. 1 in the history of the tally. The Adult Contemporary ranking should be updated tomorrow (January 17), which will reflect its thirty-seventh turn on the throne.

As “Flowers” earns its thirty-seventh week at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart, Cyrus passes the previous recordholder. Before this frame, Maroon 5 owned this bit of history. The pop band’s “Girls Like You” racked up 36 periods in charge of the radio list between 2018 and 2019.

Cyrus has been inching toward this record for several weeks now, making history with each passing frame. Last time around, the pop star was tied with Maroon 5 for this record. The period before that, she was on the same level as The Weeknd’s single “Blinding Lights.” That cut spent 35 weeks at No. 1, and it now stands as the third-longest-running leader.

Next frame, “Flowers” will hit another special milestone. It will reach 52 weeks spent on the Adult Contemporary chart, or a full year. It’s not common that any track spends a year on a radio ranking published by Billboard, but it’s also not unheard of. Currently, “Flowers” isn’t even the longest-running hit on the AC tally. It comes in behind even older tracks from stars like Taylor Swift, Sia, and Harry Styles.

“Flowers” was a No. 1 hit on a handful of Billboard charts. In addition to the Adult Contemporary list, it also ruled over the other two pop radio rankings–the Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay tallies. It currently still lives inside the top 10 on the latter roster. Cyrus also ruled over the Hot 100 and Digital Song Sales charts with her most recent smash.
