Aga Muhlach said that his kids aren’t spoiled and that he has a way to teach them about managing their finances while studying abroad despite growing up in a celebrity household.
The Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko star talked about his twins with Charlene Gonzales in an interview with Vice Ganda. His son Andres studies arts at a university in Spain while Atasha took up business at Nottingham in the United Kingdom.
“Akala ng iba, iniisip nila they’re rich kids, spoiled kids. No, no, no, no,” he said in the interview.
“Yung baon nila, kunwari ‘yung lalaki ko, ‘pag nagka-inuman silang college students, ganyan. Kung anong ginastos niya roon at naubos niya, wala silang kakainin. Hindi sila pwede tumawag sakin.”
The seasoned actor added he pays for his kids’ apartments. Atasha and Andres are now 22.
“Monthly, [ang baon nila], 400 euros (~P24,000) and then that became 500 (~P30,000). At the most, 600 euros (~P36,000),” Aga said.
Responding to the allowance, Vice noted that while this may be a lot for a college student in the Philippines, it’s modest in European countries.
“Kasi kung dito mo gagamitin yung P36,000, malaki ‘yun. Sa Pilipinas, ha,” the It’s Showtime host said. “Pero kung sa ibang bansa mo gagamitin, ang liit nung P36,000 ha. Kasi iba ‘yung value ng pera doon. Iba din ‘yung cost of living.”
In a September 2023 interview, Atasha shared that she went vegetarian for a year to lessen her expenses while studying abroad.
“When I was in the UK, I told my friends, like people here at home, the story that I went vegetarian for a year because mahal ‘yung meat,” she said. “It’s super expensive, so I was like, okay, I’m gonna go vegetarian. Because the vegetables can last me the whole week for the worth of one chicken breast. I was like, okay, this works.”
Beyond their studies, Atasha currently serves as a host on Eat Bulaga! while Andres recently started his showbiz career by signing a contract with Viva Artists Agency.
