Vic Sotto confirmed that “Eat Bulaga“ will bring back its Lenten Specials, a tradition of the noontime show in commemoration of Holy Week.
Sotto confirmed this on the March 9 episode of “Eat Bulaga,” where he shared that the cast of its Lenten Special episodes were determined through draw lots, and episodes will be aired on Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, and Holy Wednesday.
“Nabanggit natin ang pagbabalik ng ‘Eat Bulaga Lenten Specials.’ Marahil, nagtataka kayo sino ang grupo para sa Lunes, Martes, at Miyerkules. Ang ginawa po namin ay nagbunutan kung Group A, B, or C at lahat ng mga magkakapareho,” he said.
(We mentioned the return of the “Eat Bulaga’s” Lenten Specials. You’re probably wondering who will be the cast for its Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday episodes. What we did was draw lots to determine who would be Groups A, B, and C, as well as those who would be together.)
The first group will star in an episode called “Selda ng Kahapon” which consists of Joey de Leon, Allan K, Paolo Ballesteros, Wally Bayola and Carren Eistrup. Meanwhile, “Love Thy Neighbor” will star Tito Sotto, Jose Manalo, Maine Mendoza, Ryzza Mae Dizon, and Ciara Sotto.
Miles Ocampo, Vic Sotto, Ryan Agoncillo, Atasha Muhlach, Tirso Cruz III, and Ice Seguerra are part of the final group under the working title “Para Di Makalimot.”
The upcoming Holy Week special marks the first acting foray of Eistrup and Muhlach, while this would be Ocampo’s first time to be part of the noontime show’s anthology series.
The “Eat Bulaga Lenten Special” was an annual anthology series broadcast during Holy Week that replaces the noontime show in observance of Holy Week. It started airing from 1981 to 2008 before returning in 2014. The anthology series again took a break in 2019 before going on hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With episodes usually released on Holy Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the anthology series tells the story of family, love, and hope to mark the start of Holy Week in the country. The noontime show’s cast is also joined by a stream of guest actors, notably, Gina Alajar, Pilita Corales, and Ai-Ai delas Alas, just to name a few.
