Actor Alex Diaz starred in an international queer summer romance musical film Glitter and Doom that is set to have a special screening in June, in time for Pride Month.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Alex shared how representation really matters in a society as seen in his film.

“It’s a story where, in our country, where sexual suppression is at the roots of so many issues with Filipinos, with acceptance to have this movie, where in this universe love is love, queer is the norm, I think that’s so important because representation really does matter,” Alex said.

As per ABS-CBN News, the film “explores the story of two individuals deeply in love, both aspiring musicians and actors, whose paths diverge as they pursue their dreams” which “features songs from the iconic American folk rock duo, the Indigo Girls, adding a unique and emotional depth to the film’s narrative.”

Alex plays the role of Glitter, “a charming and carefree cutie who dreams of becoming a circus performer in Paris” who will meet Doom (played by UK actor Alan Cammish), a struggling musician.

Other stars include Lea DeLaria (Orange is the New Black), Tig Notaro (Army of The Dead), Peppermint, Ming-Na Wen (Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fett, Mulan, The New Karate Kid, Agents of Shield), Missi Pyle, and the Indigo Girls themselves. The film was directed by Tom Gustafson.

Meanwhile, Alex opened up about the past issue that he got involved in five years ago.

“I really thought I would retire. That was the time I came out. God really does have other plans because I was in Canada and I thought I should apply to (work at) Domino’s Pizza, and then I received a call from ABS-CBN offering me a role,” Alex shared.

As the actor felt like he had a second chance in his career, he expressed gratitude for the healing power of time and the support of his faith.

“Time heals everything, and you just have to trust in God’s plan and keep on working, which is what I’ve been doing,” he told ABS-CBN News.

In October 2019, Alex was hounded with comments about his sexuality after a fitness coach leaked a private conversation between them.

In the said exchange of messages, Alex appeared to be the one offering an indecent proposal to the coach.

Days after, the actor finally spoke for the first time about the issue and made a brave move by opening up about his sexuality for the first time.

“I ask forgiveness from my management, the brands, supporters, friends, my family and everyone else I let down by what I did and/or who I am. I’m sorry, I was wrong in my actions and failed to uphold the values I so strongly try to convey online. It was not my intention to hurt anyone or elude the truth of who I am for all these years but rather showbiz decisions based on the state of our nation in regards to acceptance and representation of who I am,” he wrote in a released statement on Instagram.

He added: “I see now that my actions are not caused by but rather the effect of the unhealthy and toxic suppression of all of who I am as a human being. I’m in a better place now.”

Alex then hoped that he would still be able to continue his love for people on the path that he had recently chosen to take on at that time.

He wrote: “My passion is performing, making people happy & making people smile. My only hope is that I can continue to use this platform to do such in whatever new path this universe-given experience has opened up for me. For now, I will rest, reevaluate and come back stronger and better than ever. I love you all, I have learned and I am growing. Thank you.”
