In an appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on Wednesday, Dec. 6, Beauty Gonzalez recalled the time she was criticized by a cultural critic for wearing excavated jewelry during the GMA ball in July.
She noted that she stayed quiet at the peak of the issue because she believed that she did nothing wrong and that if she did, somebody would have called her by then.
“I used not to speak at that time, ‘cause it’s a very unending conversation. I believe in what she believes. I also believe in what I believe. I don’t think I did something wrong. Some people think it may be wrong, but you know I was waiting for the call, but nobody called me,” Gonzalez argued.
The 32-year-old actress said that she wanted to make a statement about how much she’s proud of having to wear jewelry made by Filipinos years ago, noting her passion for collecting ancient stuff.
“I don’t even know if it’s really real, because I got it from collectors. I love collecting stuff. I had a good heart going to the GMA ball. I want to wear something that is made in the Philippines. Ginawa ng mga Filipino, a thousand years ago. I was really proud of wearing it because, hindi ko pinatunaw, it is what it is,” Gonzalez affirmed.
The desire to be authentic
The former Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) housemate stated her desire to be different and authentic because everybody would wear the same Western jewelry, and she did not want to join such a parade.
“‘Cause I know everybody will wear Western jewelry, I want to be different. I want to be myself. I want to be authentic, like if everybody can wear Tiffany, I can have my own and nobody can have it,” declared the actress.
When asked how she dealt with the negative comments that were thrown at her, Gonzalez emphasized that she tried to see it in a positive light as she was there to represent art.
“We were laughing about it. That’s okay; every bashing is a blessing. Don’t take it wrong; hindi ka naman nakapatay ng tao, hindi ka nagkidnap, hindi ka nangholdap, you are just wearing art, and art is not to be understood; the more it’s not understood, the more beautiful it is,” affirmed “The Heiress” star.
Gonzalez argued that she was willing to hand it over to the bank if they could really prove it is their property, and as long as they would treat it the way she and her husband carefully tend to it.
“I was willing to give it basta maganda ‘yung pwesto, may pangalan namin doon ‘cause it’s years of love and collection of me and my husband. We didn’t do that for like over the day; it’s years from different collectors. And they never called; apparently, we don’t have a machine here to really tell if it’s coming from that place or whatever,” she said.
