Bianca Umali’s memories of her departed parents still ‘hurt’

Bianca Umali shares it’s still hard to think of her departed parents.

Bianca Umali let her online followers get an intimate look into her life after posting a photo of her parents on her social media.

In one of the more recent posts on her Instagram account, the Sang’gre star shared what looked to be an older photo of her mother and father, both of whom had passed away. Bianca’s mother, May Soler, succumbed to breast cancer in 2005; while her father, Jose Vicente Umali, died due to a heart attack in 2010.

In the caption to her Instagram post, Bianca called her parents her “Angels” and shared how harder and longer it takes for her to process their passing as the years go by. While she admits that it hurts, Bianca wrote that she has accepted it and learned that “everything happens for a reason.”

Bianca has been able to harness her sadness about her parents’ death into something productive, such as joining the breast cancer awareness campaign of The Medical City. Bianca took part in a video titled “Babae sa Babae,” where she talked to a breast cancer survivor and a doctor who started a breast cancer screening program for women.

Bianca took part in the campaign after sharing the heartbreaking story of her mother battling cancer last year. Bianca shared that she lost her mother at the age of five and that her mother only found out she had breast cancer when it was already at stage 3.

Because of her experience, Bianca is now an advocate of breast cancer screenings as early detection through education about screening, symptoms, and treatment has raised survival rates.
