According to reports, the YouTuber behind the infamous K-Pop channel Sojang, identified by her surname Park, had her assets frozen by prosecutors.
On May 24, the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office announced that the court had accepted their request to partially seize the assets of Park, who was indicted on charges of defamation and insult against multiple Korean celebrities, including IVE’s Wonyoung.
The seized assets include real estate and deposit bonds, estimated at nearly ₩200 million KRW (about $146,000 USD). The seizure was done to prevent the suspect from transferring or selling them before her sentence hearing. The court’s decision will allow the prosecution to redeem over ₩200 million KRW (about $146,000 USD) of her criminal proceeds.
On May 14, KST, Park was criminally indicted for defaming a total of seven Korean public figures by posting malicious content on her YouTube channel. According to the prosecution’s calculations, between 2022 and 2024, Sojang earned nearly ₩250 million KRW (about $183,000 USD) from these videos.
The YouTuber has also been ordered to pay ₩100 million KRW (about $73,200 USD) to Wonyoung as compensation for a civil suit she brought against Park. You can read more about it here.
