BLACKPINK has directly addressed the rumors of a complete group re-contract falling through and potential disbandment
On the 21st, a media outlet reported that the complete re-contract between BLACKPINK and their agency, YG Entertainment (hereafter referred to as YG), had fallen through. It was reported that only Rosé had renewed her contract, while Jisoo, Jennie, and Lisa had decided to move to different agencies. However, it was added that there was an ongoing discussion to allow the complete group to engage in activities for six months each year.
Since the expiration of their exclusive contract with YG in August, Blackpink had been caught up in various rumors, especially with strong speculation that Lisa would sign a multi-million-dollar contract with a foreign agency. Coincidentally, Lisa had been linked to rumors of leaving YG due to her romantic involvement with Frédéric Arnault, the son of the luxury brand group LVMH Moët Hennessy and the CEO of luxury watch brand TAG Heuer.
YG responded to the reports of the failed re-contract by stating that “there is no confirmed information about the re-contract of Blackpink members; discussions are ongoing.” However, this news shook the online community. With more than half of the members potentially moving to different agencies, concerns arose about the group’s future activities, leading to disbandment rumors. YG’s stock price also experienced a significant drop, closing at 69,200 Korean Won, a 13.28% decrease from the previous day, according to the Korea Exchange.
Ultimately, BLACKPINK members decided to speak out themselves.
Rosé reposted a post from Jisoo’s social media account. The post captured the members embracing each other with tears of joy after completing Blackpink’s second world tour, “Born Pink,” in Seoul. This indirectly revealed the enduring friendship among Blackpink members.
Furthermore, Rosé expressed gratitude to their fans, known as “Blinks,” and shared a vlog filmed in Sydney, Australia, on her YouTube channel. In the video, Rosé and Jisoo visited a zoo and enjoyed their time together.
In addition to their recent actions, the members’ past statements have also gained attention. Jisoo appeared on a YouTube channel in April, where she jokingly dismissed rumors of discord among the members, saying that they laugh when they see such rumors and make light-hearted jokes about them. Jennie, during the “Born Pink” Seoul concert, expressed the group’s determination to continue being a great BLACKPINK.
As BLACKPINK is considered one of the leading third-generation girl groups and a global phenomenon in the K-pop industry, the interest in their re-contracting decisions remains intense. The focus now turns to whether BLACKPINK will choose to stay with YG or what the next chapter holds for them.
