Britney Spears bashes ‘tr.ash’ rumors — says she ‘will never return to the music industry’

The Princess of Pop has hung up her crown for good.

Britney Spears, 42, debunked recent rumors that fellow pop writers Charli XCX and Julia Michaels are helping her work on what would be her first album since 2016.

“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!!” the “Toxic” singer wrote Wednesday on Instagram. “They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!!”

She continued, “When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!! For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!” she claimed.

A ghostwriter is a person who secretly writes works that are then credited to other people. Spears did not reveal which artists she’s written songs for, although she is credited on many of her songs across her catalog, including the deeply personal “Everytime.”

She concluded Wednesday by addressing more rumors surrounfing her 2023 memoir “The Woman in Me.”

“People are also saying MY BOOK WAS RELEASED WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ILLEGALLY and that’s far from the truth … have you read the news these days ??? I’m so LOVED and blessed !!!”

Spears bizarrely paired the career-ending Instagram alert with a painting by Italian artist Guido Reni.

The Post has contacted reps for Spears, Charli XCX, and Michaels for comment.

Sources told Page Six on Wednesday that Charli and Michaels have been writing for Spears’ long-awaited 10th studio album, but noted that Spears has not recorded any new material yet as the project is apparently in the early stages.

Rolling Stone subsequently confirmed Page Six’s reporting about Charli and Michaels, adding that producer Cirkut and songwriter Jason Evigan have also been tapped to help.

The US Sun was the first to report on Charli’s involvement.

Michaels, 30, wrote a few songs on Spears’ 2016 album “Glory,” including “Do You Wanna Come Over?” and “Better,” as well as “Hands To Myself” by Selena Gomez and “Sorry” by Justin Bieber.

Charli XCX, 31, has written her slew of pop hits, including “I Love It” with Icona Pop, as well as “Same Old Love” by Selena Gomez and “Señorita” with Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.

After Spears’ conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, she released “Hold Me Closer” with Elton John in 2022 and “Mind Your Business,” with Will.i.am in 2023, although it was originally recorded for her 2013 album, “Britney Jean.”
