Fans—and Charli herself apparently—noticed that Cabello’s new song “I Luv It” bears a striking resemblance to Charli’s “I Got It”
Recently, Camila Cabello is preparing for a comeback with her latest studio album. Besides, she also released a snippet for her latest song, but received negative comments when netizens said that the song has a rather weak melody and is considered a “Tiktok song”. In addition, another account said that this song is very similar to a song by former singer Rihanna, the song “C*cki.nes.s (Love It)” from the album “Talk That Talk”.
The snippet also makes her fans and non-fans feel worried and scared as it is quite similar to a scene in the famous A24 horror movie – “Hereditary”
2024 may be the year of pop girl albums, but it’s also shaping up to be the year of pop girl feuds. First, it was Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, who got into it after Megan called out Minaj’s registered sex offender husband in her song, “Hiss,” prompting a whole, hastily-penned diss track in response from her opponent. Now, Camila Cabello and Charli XCX are taking up the mantle (or, at least, Charli is) and honestly? Thank god. There’s been a hole in the landscape ever since Katy Perry showed up at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour stop in Sydney last month, seemingly putting their decade-old beef to a final end. We needed this.
Earlier this week, a newly blonde Cabello shared a clip from her latest track, “I Luv It,” along with a video featuring herself hanging out of a car going 60 on the interstate. (Yes, people have already made all the requisite Hereditary jokes.) The song, which features Cabello repeating the words “I love it” over a hyperpop-adjacent beat, sounds nothing like the artist’s previous hits (i.e. “Havana,” “Señorita,” and “Shameless”). It does, however, sound a lot like Charli XCX’s 2020 track “I Got It”, a resemblance that fans pointed out almost immediately.
But Charli, whose upcoming album is aptly titled brat, is not one to take a slight like this lying down. Today, she posted a video on TikTok seemingly mocking Cabello’s, but set to her own song in her own car.
She didn’t stop there. The singer seemingly confirmed the drag with a follow-up post on Twitter/X, in which she wrote: “comee onnn mess is fun! nothing matters!” And while she’s absolutely right that mess is fun, especially for the observers outside of it, it’s pretty easy to say that nothing matters when you’re the one calling the shots in the first place. (As of this writing, Cabello hasn’t responded to either of Charli’s posts.)
Placing this budding feud even more squarely within the realm of beefs of yore, fans have also pointed out that the two used to be collaborators and friends. Charli co-wrote “Señorita” and the two performed together with Taylor Swift during her Reputation tour in 2018. In a resurfaced clip from the VMAs, Charli even referred to Cabello as an “iconic legend and my girl.” There is, of course, a real chance this is all for show and that Cabello is in on the joke, but for now… mess is fun!
