“My Dearest” starring Namkoong Min and Ahn Eun-jin ended. Attention is focused on which will now take the top spot among Friday-Saturday dramas
On Nov 24th, MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” will air at 9:50 PM, and SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama “My Demon” will air at 10 PM. Both shows will have their first broadcast in the same time slot, leading to a ratings competition.
“The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” tells the story of Park Yeon-woo (Lee Se-young), a Joseon confucian girl who struggles to return back to Joseon after time-traveling 200 years in time to the year 2023 after being thrown into a well by an unknown person after the death of Kang Tae-ha (Bae In-hyuk), her husband.
“The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” stars Lee Se-young and Bae In-hyuk. In the drama, the two actors will navigate through the 19th-century Joseon and the 21st-century modern era.
“My Demon” depicts the story of a contract marriage between Do Do-hee (Kim Yoo-jung), the devilish heiress of a conglomerate, and Jung Gu-won (Song Kang), a demon who temporarily loses his powers. This momentary loss brings them fleeting happiness but ultimately leads to hell.
“My Demon” stars Kim Yoo-jung and Song Kang. Anticipation is building for the unique development of a “soul-securing” salvation romance.
“The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract” and “My Demon” are garnering much attention as they both have their first broadcast on the same day.
Especially since “My Dearest”, which previously ranked first among Friday-Saturday dramas, ended, there is keen interest in which work and which actor will fill this vacancy.
MBC, which broke the ratings slump in the Friday-Saturday drama slot with “My Dearest”, is drawing attention to whether they can continue their success with the follow-up “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract”.
Previously, MBC’s Friday-Saturday dramas were overshadowed by the momentum of SBS’s Friday-Saturday dramas in the same time slot (10 PM). The ratings slump continued, denting their pride.
However, a turnaround occurred. In August, “My Dearest” started airing, surpassing 10% in ratings and continuously capturing SBS’s highly-anticipated Friday-Saturday dramas like “The First Responders 2” and “The Escape of the Seven”. It reclaimed the “Friday-Saturday drama No.1” position with pride.
In this situation, “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract”, led by Lee Se-young, is expected to continue the momentum of “My Dearest” and secure MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama No.1 position.
On the other hand, “My Demon”, led by Kim Yoo-jung, is now in the position to reclaim the Friday-Saturday drama No.1 spot. SBS, which held the top spot with dramas such as “Payback”, “Taxi Driver 2”, “Dr. Romantic 3” and “Revenant”, suffered a blow from “My Dearest” for 2 consecutive works. Especially, “The Escape of the Seven” did not receive explosive response as expected, leaving disappointment.
In this way, MBC aims to secure the top spot with “The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract”, while SBS aims to reclaim the top spot with “My Demon”. The two works, starting their first broadcast on the same day, raise the question of where viewers’ choice will ultimately lean.
