5 types of vegetables that help detoxify and lower liver enzymes

1. Broccoli

Eating broccoli together with onions and turmeric helps increase antioxidant levels, support detoxification, and naturally lower liver enzyme levels. Broccoli also helps protect the liver in several ways. The plant compounds in this vegetable stimulate the activity of liver detox enzymes, helping reduce liver enzyme concentrations in people with fatty liver disease, thereby improving liver function. Cruciferous vegetables in general may also help lower the risk of certain cancers.

2. Beets

Adding beets to your diet can help strengthen the liver and naturally reduce elevated liver enzymes. Drinking beet juice or eating beet soups and stews can also help reduce excess fat in the liver.

3. Onions

Onions are rich in the antioxidant quercetin, which has liver-protective effects. Its antioxidant properties help fight oxidative stress — a major factor in liver damage. Quercetin also helps lower ALT liver enzyme levels in people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

4. Leafy Greens (such as Spinach)

Leafy greens like spinach are excellent for liver health. The plant compounds in these vegetables may help prevent fatty liver disease. Add spinach to salads, smoothies, or cooked dishes to help protect the liver and promote detoxification.

5. Turmeric

Turmeric has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin — the active compound in turmeric — helps boost the immune system and heal inflammation caused by liver dysfunction or fatty liver disease. Boil a few slices of turmeric and ginger in water for 10–15 minutes, strain, add fresh lemon juice, and enjoy the drink daily to reduce inflammation, improve digestion, and support liver detoxification.
