There is currently no reliable scientific evidence showing that the natural shape of a person's thumb can accurately determine whether they are confident, emotional, stubborn, ambitious, introverted, generous, or any other personality type.

That doesn't make the image uninteresting, though.

Why Do These Personality Descriptions Feel So Accurate?

Because these statements are broad and relatable.

The Shape of Your Thumb Can Tell You Something—Just Not Your Personality

Although thumb shape cannot reliably reveal personality, it can tell us something about physical anatomy.

For example, differences in thumb shape and mobility may reflect:

• Genetics

• Bone structure

• Joint anatomy

• Ligament flexibility

• Connective tissue characteristics

• Age

• Previous injuries

• Certain medical conditions

In other words, your thumb really does tell a story.

It is simply a different story from the one suggested by the viral image.

Your Genetics Play a Major Role

The basic structure of your hands is influenced by genetics.

This is why certain physical characteristics can run in families.

You may notice that members of the same family have similar:
