British Tourist Dies After Consuming Magic Mushrooms

His Final Trip: A British tourist tragically passed away at a luxury resort in Chiang Mai after consuming magic mushrooms. Police conducted an undercover operation to purchase the mushrooms before raiding the shop and arresting the seller.

At 2:00 PM on December 23, 2567, Pol. Maj. Gen. Worapong Kamlu, Commander of Region 5 Investigation Bureau; Pol. Col. Thawatchawong Chukitkhun, Chief of Investigation Division 3; along with Region 5 investigators, the Tourist Police, and Chiang Mai health officials, deployed a foreign undercover agent to purchase magic mushrooms at a shop near the Tha Phae Gate multipurpose square on Tha Phae Road, Mueang District, Chiang Mai.

The undercover agent purchased one bag of magic mushrooms for 500 baht before officials raided the shop and apprehended the shop owner, Ms. Ploy. Upon searching the premises, police found several kilograms of magic mushrooms, which were confiscated as evidence.

The arrest followed an incident on December 20, when Mr. Vader, a 25-year-old British tourist, visited Chiang Mai with his girlfriend. After taking photos at the Tha Phae Gate, a popular landmark, he purchased the magic mushrooms—an illicit drug commonly used in Europe—from an illegal vendor operating near the landmark.

Approximately 40 minutes after consuming the mushrooms, Mr. Vader began foaming at the mouth and went into shock, passing away at a luxury resort in Mae Rim District. Suspicious of the cause of death, his family prompted an investigation. Police discovered that the deceased had consumed a large quantity of magic mushrooms, as confirmed by his girlfriend. This led investigators to the shop where the mushrooms were purchased, resulting in the subsequent raid and arrest.
