Steak with Creamy Mushroom Sauce & Pan-Seared Asparagus

This dish combines a juicy, perfectly seared steak topped with a rich mushroom cream sauce, paired with crisp-tender asparagus. It’s elegant, flavorful, and surprisingly easy to make at home.


Ingredients

For the steak:

  • 1–2 beef steaks (ribeye, sirloin, or tenderloin)

  • Salt and black pepper

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 garlic clove, smashed (optional)

  • Fresh thyme or rosemary (optional)

For the mushroom cream sauce:

  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 small shallot or 1/4 onion, finely chopped

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 cup beef broth

  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Fresh parsley for garnish

For the asparagus:

  • 1 bunch asparagus, trimmed

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt and pepper


Instructions

1. Cook the Steak

  1. Season the steak generously with salt and black pepper on both sides.

  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil.

  3. Sear the steak for 3–4 minutes per side (for medium), or adjust to your preferred doneness.

  4. Add butter, garlic, and thyme/rosemary to the pan. Baste the steak with the melted butter for extra flavor.

  5. Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest.


2. Make the Creamy Mushroom Sauce

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté shallots/onions until soft.

  2. Add the mushrooms and cook until browned.

  3. Pour in beef broth, scraping the brown bits from the pan.

3. Cook the Asparagus

  1. Heat a separate pan with olive oil.

  2. Add the asparagus, season with salt and pepper, and sauté for 4–5 minutes until bright green and slightly tender.

4. Assemble the Dish

  • Place the steak on a plate.

  • Spoon the creamy mushroom sauce generously over the top.

  • Serve with the sautéed asparagus on the side.
