Although there is currently no cure that completely removes HSV from the body, antiviral medications can help shorten outbreaks and reduce symptoms. Doctors may recommend antiviral creams, tablets, or other treatments depending on the severity and frequency of outbreaks.
Preventing transmission is equally important. During active outbreaks, experts recommend avoiding close physical contact, sharing drinks, lip products, towels, or utensils. Washing hands frequently and avoiding touching affected areas can also reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
