Many people wonder where the leftover soaps and personal items provided by hotels go?

Unfortunately, these partially used products end up in landfills. In an effort to provide the best guest experience, hotels do not pass on used toiletries to the next guest. In many hotels, they are simply thrown away and sent to landfills. They eventually decompose and contribute to the 294 million tons of waste that Americans produce each year.

Surprisingly, more than 2 billion bars of partially used soap are thrown away every day in the US alone. This crisis is where Clean the World comes in.

Founded in 2009 by Shawn Seipler, Clean the World is a nonprofit organization that collects and recycles leftover soap from more than 8,000 partner hotels across the United States, then distributes it to vulnerable populations without access to urgently needed hygiene supplies, including refugees, disaster victims, and the homeless.

By collecting, melting, reforming, and packaging used soap left behind by hotel guests, the nonprofit has distributed nearly 70 million bars of soap to more than 120 countries, sparking a 'global hygiene revolution.'
