The locomotive slammed into the delivery van.

Metal exploded across the road.

The impact threw pieces of the van several meters away.

Jace shielded the driver with his body until the debris stopped flying.

For several seconds, neither man moved.

Then the driver looked up.

“You... you saved me.”

Jace stood and checked him quickly.

“Can you walk?”

The man nodded.

“Then get away from the tracks.”

Emergency sirens began approaching from the distance.

The driver looked back at the wreckage.

His face suddenly changed.

“My bag.”

Jace looked at him.

“What bag?”

“My work bag. It was inside the van.”

Jace glanced toward the burning wreckage.

“You're not going back.”

The man grabbed his arm.

“You don't understand. I need it.”

Jace pulled his arm free.

“Whatever is inside isn't worth your life.”

The man hesitated.

Then quietly said:

“It's not mine.”

Jace stared at him.

“What?”

Before the driver could answer, a black sedan stopped at the far end of the road.

Two men stepped out.

The driver immediately went pale.

“They're here.”

Jace turned toward the sedan.

“Who?”

The man looked at him.

“The reason I was on those tracks.”
