Tips for cleaning yellow pillow cores with tiny mold spots

To clean your pillow cores, try the simple trick below.

After a period of use, pillow cores tend to yellow and may even develop tiny mold spots and unpleasant odors. Many people only wash the pillow covers, while the pillow cores continue to be used.

However, pillow cores that aren’t cleaned properly can harbor bacteria and dirt, which are harmful to health. Replacing the pillow cores frequently can be very expensive. Therefore, cleaning the pillow cores regularly will help solve this problem.

Many people think that cleaning pillow cores is difficult and that regular soap cannot fully clean them. This issue can be completely resolved with the method below.

How to Hand Wash Pillow Cores

To wash the pillow cores, you will need detergent powder, white vinegar, baking soda, and warm water.

  1. Mix 1 tablespoon of detergent powder, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, and 1/2 cup of baking soda into warm water.

  2. Soak the pillow core in the solution for about 15-20 minutes.

  3. After soaking, rub and squeeze the pillow core several times to help the dirt wash away.

  4. Rinse the pillow core thoroughly with clean water to remove all the soap. Squeeze out the excess water and hang it to dry in a sunny spot.

How to Clean Pillow Cores Using a Washing Machine

To clean the pillow cores, you will need the following materials: Baking soda, detergent powder, dish soap, bleach, and warm water.

  1. First, fill the washing machine with water in a ratio of 3 parts cold water to 1 part warm water. Warm water will help soften the stains, making them easier to clean. If your washing machine has a hot water cycle, you can choose this setting and skip mixing water.

  2. Next, add equal amounts (1:1:1:2 ratio) of dish soap, bleach, baking soda, and detergent powder to the washing machine.

  3. Place the pillow cores in the washing machine and start the cycle as usual.

  4. When washing pillow cores in a machine, make sure to align them in the direction of the drum’s rotation to improve washing efficiency. Also, avoid overloading the drum with too many pillow cores at once.

  5. Additionally, avoid selecting the high-spin mode as it can cause the pillow cores to twist.

After completing the wash cycle, take the pillow cores out and dry them in the sun until fully dry, then they are ready for use.
