Tips to prevent clothes from tangling and wrinkling in the washing machine

To minimize the chances of your clothes twisting and tangling during machine washing, try the following helpful tips:

1.  Sort Clothes Properly

Always separate your laundry by color and fabric type before washing. Fabrics like microfiber or muslin, which are more elastic, can withstand higher spin speeds and are less prone to wrinkles. On the other hand, heavier materials like denim and khaki tend to wrinkle easily, even with gentle spins. Avoid washing stretchy fabrics together with heavy denim to prevent tangling and creasing.

2.  Use Plastic Bottles to Reduce Tangling

Placing two empty plastic bottles in the washing drum can help reduce clothes twisting together. The bottles alter the water movement, enhancing rotation and preventing clothes from clumping. Slightly loosen the bottle caps to allow better water flow.

3.  Choose the Right Spin Speed

Adjust the spin speed based on the fabric you are washing. Light garments and children’s clothes benefit from a gentle spin to avoid damage, while everyday wear can be washed with a standard spin cycle. Heavier items require higher spin speeds for quicker drying, but keep in mind that faster spins can increase tangling and wrinkles.

4.  Use Mesh Laundry Bags

For delicate or easily tangled items, use mesh laundry bags. They keep clothes separate, reducing the chance of twisting and protecting fragile fabrics.

5.  Add Vinegar to Your Wash

Adding a small amount of vinegar during washing helps remove stains, neutralize odors, and keeps fabrics soft and less wrinkled.

6.  Hang Clothes Immediately After Washing

To avoid wrinkles, hang your clothes as soon as the washing cycle finishes. Shake and stretch damp clothes to smooth out creases before hanging them to dry.

Following these simple tips will help keep your laundry tangle-free, reduce wrinkles, and extend the life of your clothes.
