Most people are surprised when they learn the actual size of these markers.
A typical marker ball can measure between 20 and 36 inches (about 50–90 centimeters) in diameter, making it large enough to be seen from a considerable distance.
They are commonly manufactured in colors such as:

- Yellow
- Red
- White
The exact color depends on the surrounding environment. Engineers choose combinations that create maximum contrast with the landscape and sky.
