New unexplained jaundice should receive prompt medical evaluation.
6. Dark Urine
Urine that becomes unusually dark can occur when bilirubin enters the urine.
This can happen during obstructive jaundice, including situations where a bile duct becomes blocked.
However, dark urine can also result from dehydration, certain medications, foods, urinary problems, or other medical conditions.
If dark urine persists—particularly when accompanied by yellow skin or eyes or pale stools—it should be evaluated.
